This is basically Zero's ability to grow claws that can cut through stone. Here shows the damage Zero's claws can do. And here is a better idea of what Zero's claws actually look like.
The claws are tied to Zero's vampire mode so they will only appear when his eyes are red and he's bloodlusting, either out of anger or around the presence of blood. He can pretty much use them like an animal would, swiping and such. They're very powerful.
